Will & Buddies

Today was the last session of our New Beginnings class. Will has come a long way with his friends over the last six weeks. Here are some pictures of him with his first buddies. Notice in the first picture, he is between two lovely ladies, Ashley and Julia, checking out all the hair they have (that he doesn't). *Bonus - Julia is a Yankees fan.* ;-)

IT IS A MIRACLE BLANKET

So a friend in our Mom's group gave us their Miracle Blanket, as their son doesn't need it any more. We've been double swaddling, which worked better than single swaddling, but Will has always broken out of all swaddles in all the different blankets I've bought since he was born. Last night, I tried the Miracle Blanket. Will went to sleep at 9:30 ish. HE SLEPT UNTIL AFTER 5 AM. UNBELIEVABLE! I'm not saying it's going to happen every night, but I was really impressed. Fingers crossed that this is a trend...

One breakthrough down, two to go this week.

Will is a smiley baby. He smiles a lot, which we like. Strangers seem to like it too. He laughed in his sleep a few times a while ago, and has been maddeningly close to laughing a few times over the last week. I hope soon we'll be posting video of that (and all the other videos we have DAD).

Will has also spent the last week working like mad to get his thumb in his mouth and get it to stay put. He keeps at it, all day long. And he's just about got it, having just gone down for a nap in his swing with his hand near his mouth at least.

And because he's such a good boy, he slept for SIX hours straight last night, from 10 pm - 4 am. What a treat for me! He's still giving Dad a hard time at night though, but Dad's a champ and they're working through it.

This picture of Will was taken an hour ago with my new camera phone - which is nicer than my old camera phone, which I dropped in the glass of water in the bathroom for the cats on Monday.

We're two weeks behind - we will try to catch up.

In the meantime, a first.

We took our first trip to the beach in Sandwich, MA. There's a boardwalk that leads out to the water, and people sponsored planks to rebuild it after a hurricane in the early 1990s. I found a plank that said "Will" and another that said "Wright Family"! Video of Will's first dip in the ocean (so cold!) to come soon.




Will makes this sad face that Billy and I can't help but get a kick out of. He juts out his bottom lip and curls it down - very pouty. So sad.

Tummy time Will

One of the moms in my New Mom's class took this picture of Will doing his tummy time work. This is his favorite way to do tummy time. For a bald guy with a paunch, he's damn cute.

An Inconvenient Truth

Claudia and I watched an Inconvenient Truth Saturday night and it really had an impact on us (I am kind of disappointed that it took us this long to see the movie.) If you haven't seen the movie you should find the time to watch it, especially since there is an important election coming up.

Before you go to the polls ask yourself this question. Is there any issue more important than saving our planet?

Por favor no llore a bebé

Claudia has gone out into the world and left me with Will for approximately 4 hours. She will be learning Spanish I don't know what I will be learning. The title off this entry is "Please don't cry baby" (at least that is what the online translator says it means.)

This will be live so if you are really bored check back often and I will be posting a "status" message. If I don't post it could mean chaos or it could mean Will is sleeping and I am gaming. I predict chaos.

4:35 PM - Mom has left the building. Initially it looked like Will would sleep but he is scanning the room. I know what he is looking for and I don't have it.

4:48 PM - Will is sleeping in his swing. Pookie is poaching Tazi's dry food.

Chaos factor - 0 or Green.

4:58 PM - Will's head was tilted a bit much I adjusted it quickly and stabilized it.
This was a dangerous procedure but it was completed without complications.

Chaos factor - 0 or Green.

5:38 PM - Cat's have been fed several doors in the kitchen need some WD-40. Will is still sleeping but I just heard some grunting from the swing area.

Chaos factor - 1 Still Green but less Green than a 0.

5:47 PM - Tazi just puked up her dinner. I had to move fast so I fashioned a scoop using half of a paper plate. I cleaned the mess and now I have another cat puke scooper for later.

Chaos factor - 1 Somewhat Green.

6:15 PM - Will is still sleeping he is actually snoring, and I am getting bored.

Chaos factor - 0 Very Green.

7:00 PM - Will woke up I gave him a bottle changed a diaper and hardly a whimper.

7:15 PM - Claudia is home and everyone is calm and happy. This went way smoother than I expected.

Talking with Will

Here is a video from July 14th when Will was 10 days old. Back then he was just looking and following things around. His only way to communicate with us was crying. Now he is almost laughing, yelling, squeaking, grunting, and making various other random noises. Can't wait for him to start trying to talk. We are at the Cape this weekend and we will be posting some pics soon. Password for the video is "will"

Up all night but not because of Will

We are very tired. Most new parents are I hear. But Will is not the cause of our fatigue. It is our first and most challenging child, Tazi. Maybe its because she doesn't get quite as much attention as before. Maybe its because every cat is on food rationing in this house until Pookie gets down to a healthy weight, and Tazi has to ask us to sneak her food in the bedroom, which Pookie is now on to anyway. Either way, Tazi bats at the blinds, breaks into closets, scratches at the carpet, mattress, and bassinet in an attempt to wake us. Her attempts are generally successful. And when we lock her out, she rams in to the door loudly until we let her back in. Yawn.

Date Night

The litigation department party was last night, and Will agreed to be my date. Even though the location was 10 minutes away in a neighborhood I know well, it's Boston, so of course I got lost and drove around for a half hour. Will went to sleep, and when we arrived, he woke up and I figured my time was limited since he usually fusses between 6 and 8. I put him in the sling, and gave him a pacifier. He sat quiet and alert for the next 2+ hours. Not a peep. Not a poop. Nothing. Just the most easy going little baby& the most polite date I ever had.

Rainy days

Sometimes I love the rain. It's the best excuse to stay in your pajamas all day, and not leave the house, and just hang out together. That's what we did today. Mom, Dad, Will, Taz & Pookie all in their jammies, hanging out at home. Good times.

Maternity leave theater; a play in two scenes

Act one: Theft

Players: Tazi, a carnivore; Will, a dairyvore; Mom, a sucker; a chicken sandwich.

Setting: The kitchen, lunchtime. Mom has just sat down with Will to enjoy a hurried lunch, which consists of chicken in a plain wrap. Tazi watches and waits.

Plot Twist: Will needs a diaper change. Mom must act quickly.

Conclusion: Tazi enjoys a chicken sandwich for lunch.

Act Two: Forgiveness

Players: Tazi, a carnivore; Will, a dairyvore; Mom, a sucker; a tummy time blanket.

Setting: The living room floor, tummy time. Mom has just laid Will down for some tummy time. Tazi leaves the couch to join Will on his tummy time blanket in the sun. Mom helps will pet Tazi.

Plot Twist: Tazi begins to purr, and then cleans Will's hand.

Conclusion: Mom forgives Tazi for stealing her lunch.

Rites of Passage

Today Will had an appointment with the pediatrician, and he now weighs in at a whopping 11 lbs. 3 oz., and 23" long! He's smack dab in the middle for both size and weight, and we're so glad he got a clean bill of health. He also had his first round of immunizations. The doctor told me not to look, and I'm so glad I didn't, because listening was bad enough. The little guy SCREAMED (louder and more piercing than he ever has) for about a minute, then had a meal, and passed out. I give him a lot of credit for handling it all pretty well.

8 Weeks

8 weeks is not a long time, but Will's birth seems like it was so long ago. So much so that I'd consider the future possibility of having another child, something that was not a given back in July. He is such a different creature now than what he was. He smiles, he observes, he works hard at trying to make noises, and is really good at holding up his head and being pulled in to a sitting up position (with some help). He has even laughed in his sleep a few times. He's not the puffy faced little newborn who used to disappear in his car seat, in fact, he fills it out quite nicely now. We even put him in the big jogging stroller today for a long walk in the Arboretum. Just 6 weeks ago we tried using that stroller but quickly decided he was nowhere near big enough to be in it, even lying down. It really is amazing how much he has changed and how much he has changed us in 2 months time.
